Cars Suck

On Tuesday, I had a winter league game but still wanted to deposit mortgage payment monies and get some free Quizno's before I left. I had successfully completely both endeavors and was driving home with my sandwich, scooting down 4th street towards College. The right side of the street was packed with parked cars so I was over to the left while still as close as I could be to the right. This street is very narrow. Without warning, as is usually the case, a car pulled out of a driveway quick as a lick and directly into my path. I slammed on the breaks and tried to swerve out of the way but to no avail. The front right corner of my bumper smooched the front left corner of a 1985 white BMW with a skinny little 17 year-old behind the wheel. Oh well---there was neither damage nor injury. Still, dealing with insurance is a pain in the ass.
The very next day, Campus Safety found my car in the staff and faculty parking lot and ticketed me, after having missed the car for 2 or 3 months. Now, I either have to pay the $50 fine so that I can get a parking permit or just never park there again. I am reminded of the third choice, used by Ken and Laura, in which they neither got a permit nor parked elsewhere, accumulating larger and larger tickets---all of which were ignored and discarded until they graduated.
A bicycle is the clear solution to my woes. I need a bicycle! I would not spend as much money on gas and I would get a workout every morning. We all know that the strength and appearance of my calves is more important to me than anything else.

That little trick only works if you've never registered that car with them before, as we discovered that they never actually bother to look up license plates that aren't in their system somewhere. Also, they put a sticker on Ken's window eventually threatening to boot his car, so he had to move.

I've been parking on Foothill just north of my office ever since. I've been too lazy to get a permit and pay the fine and I don't want to risk another ticket in the staff and faculty lot. It's not so bad.
