St. Patrick’s Day at Sandy’s House

Emlyn, Dave Mathews, Sandy and I had a celebration last night, only realizing the actual holiday when we raised our glass of Jack and coke to toast. With Maribeth and Jolie out of town, I have been responsible for entertaining Sandy. On Wednesday night, we moved all the furniture out of the bedrooms in his house so he can sand and varnish the hardwood floors. Afterwards, we ate pizza and wings and went to my house for poker.
So, last night, I bought some corn, pork spareribs, and hot sausage to grill while we drank whiskey and played Scrabble. Sandy built a fire and busted out some cigars---the evening was perfect except that I would have liked two or three times more ribs than I ate. The ribs were coated in a delicious and impromptu sauce of molasses, Jack, plum sauce, mustard, garlic, and soy sauce. It is tragic that we never grilled ribs before especially since I only have a handful of months left with Sandy here. His departure and the experience last night just inspired me to build a brick grill in my backyard. It can't be too hard, right?
We will likely party again on Saturday night, considering Whit and Claire will be here. Dave Mathews still has not met either of them but is excited to do so with alcohol involved. I am excited.
