My Prolonged Absence
To all five and a half of my loyal readers, I apologize for my two weeks away from the old weblog. Trina and I have simply been having too much fun and have had little access to the internet, especially during our time on little Greek Isles. Since we last spoke, I have traveled through Rome and Athens, been bored on way too many ferries, relaxed on the islands of Paros and Naxos, and flown to Valencia, Spain.
The art and architecture in Rome was unbelievable, especially the Bernini sculptures in the Borghese and the opulence of the Vatican. The city was otherwise much too noisy and hot, especially with our hotel lacking air conditioning. We were very glad to leave for Athens but dismayed by the ancient city's similarity to urband Mexico---dirty, run-down, and colorless. I was happy to see the Acropolis at least and yet a bit underwhelmed.
The Cyclades, on the other hand, were very pleasing---we spent two nights on Paros and three on Naxos. We were able to cheaply camp and enjoy relaxing hours on the beach, sunning and napping and reading. Trina was difficult to coax into what was in my mind reasonably warm sea water but I was quite happy to swim around. The food was mostly very good, especially on Paros, and on Naxos we found a Tex-Mex joint we ended up dining at twice.
Ah! Must go, out of internet time! Check out Trina's site for a more thorough writeup of our island adventures.
I am in Valencia, off to Madrid, San Sebastian and Pamplona soon. LOVE!

Hey Drew... I just wanted to claim to be a loyal reader. But I have to be honest, I start getting a litttle jealous reading about you cavorting around Europe while I'm sitting here telling myself how much I like living somewhere that doesn't get above the 70s and remains overcast all summer. That, and you're making me try to remember things I learned in art history in high school. I suppose that's a good thing.
Peace!

Oh, one more thing- why doesn't clicking on your chest hole take me to your blog?! My gaze is not drawn to the itty-bitty text at the bottom. Fix it!
