Starbucks: Backyard Edition

Post 1

My  parents have kept a compost heap in their backyard for the last ten years, which, along with recycling and smart consumerism, decreases their weekly trash to nearly nothing.
This year, my father and mother noticed a new side effect of their eocological lifestyle: the caffeination of local fauna. Coffee grounds are excellent compost and can [...]

Christmas 1, Wallet 0, Drew Done Caring

Post 2

I seem to be done shopping. Downtown, Macy's and REI were shit-shows, as expected, but fruitful. I took an Agua Verde break and then slipped over to OK OK in Ballard for one last purchase.
Now I am home (Seattle-apartment-home) with three or four hours to pack for home (Massachusetts-house-home). And maybe I will construct my [...]

Pressure, Pushing Down on Me

Post 3

Christmas is in five days and I have procured two (2) presents.
I launched Frisbase yesterday. I estimate a few hundred Los Angeles players will be using it by the end of the month. It is not done.

A Week (or two) in Review

Post 4

On December 8th, the day before my birthday, Sparkle Motion asserted its dominance once again. Calculating Age in PHP, Update

Post 6

If you remember, my goal was to write one line of PHP code that would calculate age from a birthday. My previous PHP age calculation code had me turning 25 three days early because I was not correcting for leap year. Oops! The corrected code is:
$age = floor((time() - strtotime($birthdate))/(60*60*24*365.2425));
I could use 365.24219 but 365.2425 [...]

The Impervious Sparkle Motion

Post 7

I was heading home from the law firm on 4th Ave S last night, exhausted from the day and considering the Heroes episode and Trader Joe's delicacies awaiting me in Wallingford. Brooke and I had instituted a major database change in CaseHawk, a harrowing experience of second-guessing and frantic bug fixes. Have I mentioned that [...]
