Day 2… Again
The Claremont weather gods somehow know that I am leaving for Seattle and accordingly, continue to send us rain. Having forgotten the later day forecast, I arrived at work this morning in, as Joaquin said, "a stylish shirt and matching sandals." After he and I lunched on Indian in the village amidst inconsistent but strong downpour, we stopped by my house to grab my REI Taku. I am wise now, Kachina, and you will not catch me unaware again---my jacket will never be far here or in the gray north.
Despite the rain, I took a lovely run for Day 2 of Beating Chuck at a Marathon. My body felt cold and stiff as I started but the initial uphill warmed me up nicely and I quickly cruised the middle level section . When I run in the rain or (slight) cold, my hands are the only bit that stay chilled, from inactivity or extremity or both. I ran 6 miles in under 45 minutes; you can see my route here.
My legs are sore right now but I felt great during, despite not having run that distance in a few months. I will see how I feel tomorrow morning and plan my next run accordingly. I think a slow five mile would be perfect---I need to get my weekly distance up without straining myself too much.
I really should just register for the San Francisco Marathon and make my commitment official. And I should convince Scott to run it as well. Four months is more than enough time to get in proper shape for the race. Perhaps I can even tune my body to a 7:30 pace and qualify for Boston. How crazy would that be?
Now I must launder my clothing and stretch my legs and lower back while wasting brain cells on the wonderful idiot box.
And remember: if I ever miss a day describing a run, I probably didn't go and you should give me lots of trouble. I have been blowing hot air about running a marathon for almost two years and this summer is my chance to sack up. I need your support.
