Upping the Ante
Chuck and I talked on the phone this evening and we reached a decision.
If we are not striving to qualify for the Boston Marathon, why run at all? Was our training worth nothing? Are we not fit and fast and raring to sink our teeth into this course?
Two hundred and fifty feet of total elevation gain. 250. This gain is spread over the first 16 miles of the race. Why am I scared of San Francisco? I'm not scared at all.
This course has been official for seven short years and there is no prize money offered. The course record is slow because the marathon has not attracted top runners.
So Chuck and I will just go ahead and qualify for Boston. Three hours and ten minutes in which to run 26.22 miles.
I fly down to San Francisco tomorrow. I am ready. Marathon, are you ready for me?
