Heima Means At Home

Sigur Rós is releasing a documentary film of Iceland, their homeland, and the free concerts they performed there in 2006 and 2007. The film, Heima, has a trailer here and press release here. After traveling the film festival circuit this fall, Heima will be released in November as a DVD accompanied by an entirely new studio album. Joy!

The trailer is beautiful all on its own—almost more of a music video. The footage of Iceland looks fantastic and stirring. I have long been intrigued by the images I have seen of the country. Check out the photographs of Rebekka on Flickr for prime examples.

I feel privileged to have seen Sigur Rós perform live, way back in the autumn of 2002. They are a unique group of artists who cross language barriers and buck musical conventions but still produce unbelievably evocative work. I will try to find my reflections on that experience from an early early drewd and repost them here.

the trailer link is bad. I have heard of Sigur Ros and like them. I actually heard of them because of a chillout cd that I bought. The CD has the s song Staralfur. Cool stuff.

Thanks, Scott. I updated the trailer link. If you like that song, you should check out the albums Ágætis Byrjun and ( ). Those are my favorites.
