Winter Is Upon Us

I am snoozing an extra ten minutes or so each morning, the cold driving me back under my new fuzzy duvet cover and blanket. With four pillows all to myself, I sleep on one and construct a sort of warmth fort around my head with the other three.

The time change last weekend has pushed my working waking hour beyond sunrise and for that I am thankful. I am not quite so pleased with the brilliant, cloudy sunsets over Elliot Bay that begin just after 3 PM. By the time I head to the bus stop for my homeward commute, the city is completely dark, twilight long since past.

Yesterday, on my ride home, I cued up some Old Crow Medicine Show and dozed off within moments of sitting down. To anyone who has had me in their car on a road trip, this should not be surprising. I stirred in and out of sleep as the bus stopped and passengers disembarked, only to fully awake with an unfamiliar, dark street out the window.

I groggily hopped up and made my way to the front of the bus. "Is this the stop you want?" the driver asked. "Or are you trying to get to 45th?"

"No, I slept through my stop. This is fine." The driver laughed as I swiped my card and exited to find myself on Latona and 43rd, heading the half mile back downhill and home with Old Crow as evening accompaniment.
