To Read or Not To Read

Virgil Griffith created a simple mash-up of average SAT/ACT scores and top ten favorite books, as listed on Facebook, for US universities and colleges. He presents these data as Books That Make You Dumb. I'm amused to see that "I don't read" correlates to higher scores than do The Holy Bible and Fahrenheit 451. And I'm happy to say that I've read three of the top six books.

In other news, Joaquin and I are having a reading race in 2008. I need to setup a special page to chronicle this epic battle.

And, finally, Steve Jobs said that the Amazon Kindle would fail as a product because "people don't read anymore." Hilarious, sad, and likely true.

It's unfortunately that, since it's limited to the college's top ten list, it's mostly limited to books commonly read in school. Like Brothers Karamazov is way better than Crime and Punishment, but probably read in classes less often.

It was cool until I looked at the SAT scores for the bottom schools: now I'm depressed about the state of humanity.
