This Rule Could Change Your Life

A news article regarding Rule 240 was forwarded to me, and I rarely trust e-mail forwards, but this appears to be legit. In short, whenever an airline delays or cancels a flight for reasons other than the weather or factors outside their control, they are obligated to place you on the next available flight to your destination at no cost to you and irrespective of carrier.

Following airline deregulation, Rule 240 is not a federal requirement but instead written into the contract the airline issues to you with a ticket purchase. Check out the Consumerist for information on individual carriers.

This Rule 240 page (click through for all three pages) offers the clearest and most concise explanation.
