Photography Links

Post 1

I would like to offer a quick round-up of photography links that I've found interesting over the last few months. The Cleverest compares a Canon Powershot G9 and a Canon 5D for image quality. The G9 fares well, especially at less than a quarter of the prices of the 5D SLR kit. An older, professional [...]

Truth

Post 2

So I was in not a particularly good mood this evening when I returned home, firing up my laptop on the strength of my "today or gin" claim to Whit (more on this later?). In the midst of glorious self-pity, I recalled a personally and professionally relevant story that asked, "How will this software get [...]

Giving In to Flickr

Post 3

Well, I have never been quite happy with Gallery or Gallery2 so I am ready to jump on the bandwagon and use my Flickr account. Whit's coming with me. I will see if the Flickr tools (combined with Lightroom) increase my upload throughput and if the social hooks increase my investment.

Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8D: The Little Lens That Could…

Post 4

Check out this series of photographs of people and their breakfasts by John Huck. The photographs are beautifully taken, sure, but the subject matter is just so compelling. One photo presents only cigarettes and coffee as a woman's repast. I feel sad that she doesn't eat more but the emotion is quickly followed by self-reproach [...]

Wallingford Night Stroll with Old Lens

Post 6

When I was back east this August, my sister gave me an old lens belonging to my late grandfather, Don McLaughlin. This old Nikon-mount fits perfectly and shoots fine on my D70 digital SLR, despite requiring full manual operation: aperture, shutter speed and focus. The lens is a Vivitar Wide-Angle 28mm 1:2.8. I would link [...]

Mother and Sunset

Post 7

* WPG2 Plugin Not Validated * My mother, Melanie, watches the sunset from the shore of Kingswood Lake. We enjoyed three different but equally impressive sunsets over the course of our first three nights at the cabin. I have not had time to process further photographs from this trip. The light and settings I shot [...]
